We live in environments that allow for so much incoming
While shopping at the market I hear music that reaches into my subconscious, popping up a picture into my consciousness from the last time Id heard it. Layer upon layer, like a collage of sound sight and smell, feelings tastes, all merge within the artist to evoke an expression. something bubbles up, percolates in our souls until we have to bring it out.
My new students have remarked in their own individual ways: Is it “cheating” to use a photograph to work off of or recreating a painting of the old masters into modern terms..is that cheating?
I think if one takes an image verbatum, so to speak, and places it up for sale with their own name on it, that is cheating.
Authors, painters, musicians are influenced by each other..What was old is new again, it has been said. the next few generations are recreating, discovering , as if anew.
However, we are today in a totally new configuration, global influence is mighty. We are multicultural. shades of what may have seemed opposite now lay side by side.
Question what you question… Be ceative! Be original, and yes be influenced.
